Lixus magazine accompanies the discovery of a site of rock carvings in the province of Sidi Ifni
In the issue of July 48, 2023, Lixus magazine published a research paper on the discovery of an archaeological site of rock carvings in the Sabt al-Nabour community in Sidi Ifni. This paper touched on the features and characteristics of this archaeological site, as researchers currently have little data related to rock art in the region of Sidi Ifni (the Western Small Atlas), most of which relate to the sites of Annamer and Amalu in the Boutroush group. However, recently, rock carvings were discovered in Sabt al-Nabour group. It is of great importance for the study of rock art in Morocco.
Researchers Benoît HOARAU, Abd El-Hadi Fek, Mohamed Hammou and Noureddine Zedidat surveyed the site in December 2018, where they conducted an initial inventory of the Tamda Ogni site and its surroundings, which enabled them to discover a secondary station called Avod n Idir.
In March 2020 the inventory was completed and a nighttime photographic coverage of the main painting of the Tamda Ogni site was completed, using a system of searchlights, which allowed the researchers to more clearly identify inscribed subjects, especially those that were difficult to read.
The article, published in the scientific journal Lixus, analyzed the engraved scenes that the researchers considered the most important. The article also focused on the study of the main painting at the site, with a brief discussion of the secondary station, before attempting to place the discovered rock inscriptions in their regional context. It is mentioned that the Lixus magazine is included in the portal of the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research for Moroccan Scientific Journals (IMIST).
