Then, there are several conditions to become an astronaut in Europe. You must be between 27 and 50 years old. You must have at least a scientific master's degree, or be an engineer. You must speak English fluently. And finally, you must have specific psychological skills.
What about salaries then? At the European Space Agency, according to France Diplomatie, an astronaut at the start of his career earns between 6,000 and 6,900 euros per month. After training, the salary increases from approximately 7,600 to 8,400 euros. Finally, an astronaut who has flown in space is increased and earns between 8800 euros and 9700 euros monthly. We are talking here about net salaries.
An extremely rigorous selection process
For NASA, the prerogatives are practically the same. To become an astronaut, however, you must also have at least 1,000 hours of driving a jet plane under your belt. Suffice to say that this is not given to everyone. The selection process is tiring and would be 74 times more difficult to pass than the test to get into Harvard.
For salary, a level 1 astronaut would receive around 60,000 euros per year, or 5,000 euros per month. With developments in the profession, it is possible to earn nearly 78,000 euros per year, or 6,500 euros per month. Salaries which may vary depending on the place of assignment. NASA's latest calls for applications mentioned annual salaries of 95,000 to 147,000 euros. Not bad is not it?
