The dragon is an animal
Perhaps this legendary animal is an invention of the ancient Iraqi imagination because its first appearance was in Babylon, specifically in Babylon, the capital, whose walls were decorated with drawings of this complex or distorted creature. It was called in the Babylonian language (Mushakhshu). It has a huge serpentine body covered with scales and is connected to the neck of a long snake, and above it is a single horn curved like a ram’s horn. It has a tail like a snake’s tail and two legs like a lion’s legs, while its hind legs are like an eagle’s legs and claws. It had a protective function against goblins and strange creatures trying to break into the city. Which is placed on the walls of its doors, especially the Ishtar Gate. In this function, it mimics the function of the winged bull in Assyria (northern Iraq).
The dragon in the folk tale in southern Iraq is a great serpent or lizard with four legs and one or several heads, each with a slit tongue. From its mouth it breathes burning fire to burn enemies
