A container with the image of a Sumerian god
Fragment of a vessel with a frontal image of a Mesopotamian goddess, (Nisaba?) from the early Sumerian period of Dynasty IIIb (ca. 2400 BCE).
Nisaba is a Sumerian goddess. She is associated with wisdom, writing, and is sometimes considered the goddess of learning. The Sumerians revered her for her connection to knowledge and the arts.
Artistic depictions of Nisaba may vary, but generally she is depicted as a seated goddess, sometimes holding a writing tablet or writing instrument such as a reed stem. It is also associated with grain, symbolizing fertility and crop growth.
