Discovering the farthest star from Earth
In March 2022, the Hubble Space Telescope discovered the farthest star from Earth ever observed... This star is called Earendel, and it is about 28 billion light-years away from us.
This means that the light from this very distant star took about 28 billion years to reach us.
But... does this star still exist? of course not.
Scientists say that this star definitely no longer exists....it died a long time ago.
Therefore, the location of the star as we see it now is not the real or current location of this star, but rather this is its location as it was in the distant and very distant past.
Scientists believe that this distant star was formed only about 900 million years after the Big Bang that led to the creation of the universe about 13.8 billion years ago.
