?Did you know that the legend of the mermaid is Iraqi in origin
The Mesopotamian legend states that the god Enki sent knowledge to humans through a being whose shape is that of a mermaid named Apkalu, who lives between land and water to teach them civilization. Later, this idea developed over time in different civilizations and came under different names. It appeared in Syria as Atargatis and to the Greeks as the myth of Oceanus. And his wife Tethys, leading up to the tales of One Thousand and One Nights by naming it Julnar, then the European heritage by naming it Ondine, and then the mermaid became the main concern in the imagination of thinkers, writers and poets until our present era in the same ancient Iraqi way and method.
note
Perhaps there are ancient Iraqi legends that are completely similar to the legends that have appeared around the world, but they have not been found yet due to the limited proportion of archaeological excavations in Iraq.
