Sobekneferu was the first queen of the Middle Kingdom
Sobekneferu was an ancient Egyptian who ruled as pharaoh after the death of her brother Amenemhat IV. She was the last king of the Twelfth Dynasty, and she ruled Egypt for nearly four years from 1806 to 1802 BC. The meaning of its name is “Beauty of Subic”.
She is the daughter of Pharaoh Amenemhat III. The ancient Egyptian historian and priest Manetho said that she was also the sister of Amenemhat IV, but this has not been proven true. Sobekneferu had an older sister named Neferoptah who was probably the heir presumptive. Her name is preserved in a cartouche and she has her own pyramid in the Hawara area. But Neferoptah died at an early age.
It is most likely that Amenemhat IV died without a male heir, and consequently his daughter Sobekneferu ascended the throne. According to the “Papyrus of Kings,” she ruled for three years, ten months, and twenty-four days
In the late nineteenth century BC.
