The Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences, Mohammed V University, celebrates the 67th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Spanish Language and Literature in Rabat (1957-2024), and on the occasion of Spanish Week, which was a generous opportunity to honor the most prominent professors who contributed to the establishment of this specialty at this university.
On this occasion, the Dean of the College, Laila Mounir, gave a welcome speech, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Kingdom of Morocco, Enrique Ojada Bella, gave a speech, who considered teaching the Spanish language one of the most prominent means of spreading Spanish culture, and gave an example of the Spanish Cervantes Institute.

During the session that followed the opening session, Lorenzo Capellan de Toro, Cultural Counselor at the Spanish Embassy in Morocco, gave a lecture entitled “Spanish in Morocco,” in which he talked about his deep relationship with Morocco, which lasted for more than 30 years, and talked about the presence of Spanish in all vital fields in the country. Morocco is like education. He presented a historical overview of the beginning of establishing the teaching of the Spanish language, beginning in the northern part of Morocco. He spoke about the importance of the strength of Moroccan-Spanish relations and its positive impact on students, and this is reflected in the number of centers and students coming to learn Spanish. He also raised the issue of teaching Moroccan culture and language in Spain.
The Argentine Ambassador to Morocco, Pablo Martín Piñero Trumburo, also praised the importance of cultural relations Which links Morocco with the Spanish-speaking countries, and the Ambassador of Salbador to Morocco, Ignacio de Cosio Perez de Mundoza, confirmed that the relations between Morocco and the Spanish-speaking countries go beyond cultural relations to the consolidation of relations in other fields.

The Ambassador of Mexico to Morocco, Mabel Comez Olivier, congratulated Mohammed V University for its hard work in terms of cultural exchange, as well as for spreading these values in an academic manner among students. The opening session was concluded by the Ambassador of Cuba to Morocco with words of appreciation for the University’s efforts towards strengthening Moroccan relations with Spanish-speaking countries.
