The world's oldest recorded kiss may have occurred 4,500 years ago in the Middle East, a study has found.
The oldest record of human kissing dates back to about 4,500 years ago in the ancient Middle East, 1,000 years earlier than previously thought, according to researchers.
Scientists have highlighted evidence that kissing was practiced in some early Mesopotamian societies, documented in ancient texts dating back to 2500 BC that have been largely ignored.
The researchers' findings were published this week in the academic journal Science, and showed evidence that "kissing on the mouth existed in Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt" as early as 2500 BC.
