Roman monument
Monument to the Roman grave of Sextus Vettius Geminus, a veteran of the Augustan III Legion stationed at Lambaises, Algeria. The monument to Vittius Geminus was probably erected by his wife Licinia Musiana and his son, also called Vittius, whose names have been damaged in the inscription.
The Third Augustan Legion and its role in consolidating the foundations of Roman settlement in the Eures (81-161) AD
Since its incursion into Numidian lands, the Roman authority has tended to focus its attention on the military side, and to create a strong army that would enable it to achieve its goals and ambitions in the region. The Third Augustan Legion is considered the backbone of this army, and one of the most important defensive means that this authority has employed to encircle the region on the one hand.
The establishment of population centers and urban centers such as Lambaesis, Thamugadi, DianaVeteranorum, and Cuicul, on the other hand. After its incursion into the Eurasian region in the year 81 AD, this authority doubled its power and dominance, and aimed to encircle and subjugate the region, and suppress all revolutions against the Roman presence. Despite using all means, the Roman authority was unable to achieve its goals, as the Numidians exhausted the occupation forces, and confronted them with all their might. He was firm and determined until the arrival of Al-Nadal and the elimination of the Roman presence in the year 430 AD. On this basis, we pose the following problem: What is the role of the Third Augustan Legion in consolidating the foundations of Roman settlement in the Aures region? And to what extent did this legion contribute to achieving the goals of Roman colonialism in North Africa?
The monument is located in the Biblical Garden
