The American company Microsoft revealed that it has pumped investments into the largest artificial intelligence company in the UAE , worth $1.5 billion, as the Gulf country pledges to end any cooperation with China in this field.
According to the Wall Street Journal , the deal comes with American support, as relations between the United States and the United Arab Emirates have witnessed tension in recent years due to Abu Dhabi’s growing relations with China and its technology
companies. The agreement concluded between one of the largest technology players in America and the Abu Dhabi-based G42 company indicates the Gulf country’s shift towards Washington.
The Emirates News Agency, WAM , announced that the investment aims to enhance cooperation between the two companies to introduce Microsoft’s latest technologies for artificial intelligence and skills development initiatives to the UAE and the rest of the world.
She noted that Brad Smith, Vice Chairman and President of Microsoft, will join the G42 Board of Directors, and this expanded cooperation will enable organizations of all sizes in new markets to exploit the benefits of artificial intelligence and cloud technologies, while emphasizing their commitment to leading global standards for safety and security.
G42 is scheduled to use the Microsoft Azure platform to run artificial intelligence applications and services, and will collaborate with Microsoft to provide advanced artificial intelligence solutions to customers in the global public sector and major institutions.
Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of G42, said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency: “Microsoft’s investment in G42 is a defining moment in the company’s journey towards growth and innovation, and demonstrates strategic compatibility in visions and implementation between the two institutions, and enhancing cooperation and synergy on a global level.” ".
He added that the partnership will contribute to developing a skilled and diverse workforce in the field of artificial intelligence and creating a talent pool that enhances the innovation and competitiveness of the UAE and the entire region, by investing one billion dollars in a special fund for developing developers.
For his part, Brad Smith, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of Microsoft, said: “The two companies’ cooperation will not be limited to the UAE only, but they will also work to spread artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and services in developing countries.
