Ismail Titao: A young voice from the south-east reviving the Amazigh heritage
Ismail Titao, a singer and guitarist from the center of the Tinghir Stadium in Errachidia, south-east of the Kingdom of Morocco, was born on August 28, 1990. His artistic talent developed in a conservative Berber society, and he used music and poetry as a means to freely express the issues of his authentic identity, and through the singing art he presented the cultural heritage. His artistic career began in 2008 with the singing group called “Free Life”. From the beginning, he had a great passion and desire to discover and renew the local Amazigh heritage, and revive it in a contemporary style by adopting new melodies and melodies, using modern musical instruments. He discovered his talent in writing and composing. Singing in a conservative society, where committed poetry and meaningful traditional music had a special place.
He derived his inspiration from the intangible cultural heritage of the south-eastern region, where Ahidous’s art nourished his young talent, as is the case with the pioneers of Amazigh art, including Sheikh Ahmad Ahchem and the late Embarek Al-Arabi. He drew inspiration for the topics of his songs from well-known poets and writers in the artistic scene, including; Poems by Moha Bensain, Hamid Talebi, and Mohamed Rassam..., and the local group of Ahidous Art “Tazdamt”... He also tried to give a youthful touch to classic heritage songs, by redistributing them and modernizing their melodies, and at the same time while preserving some of their characteristics, authentic details, and authentic essence.
Ismail Titao does not consider singing merely a space or melodies that produce vocal melodies, ranging from quiet to loud. Rather, he uses it as a means of introducing the issues of the Amazigh and the Amazigh language, and the art that preserves the intangible cultural and artistic heritage, carrying the values of universality and humanity, and giving it the status that distinguishes it and presenting it to new generations with a modern touch. Combining authenticity and modernity, he also shares his artistic sense with the audience and conveys to them messages of pride and pride in their belonging to the Amazigh identity, which has a rich cultural and artistic heritage, and enables the young artist to see how music and poetry can be a bridge between the past and the present.
He began his artistic career with the “Free Life” group, and participated with them in many local evenings and festivals such as the Itran Boumalne Dades Festival and others..., in addition to two participations in television programs, most notably Ait N Azouane, and his participation in the television artistic program was for the first time on behalf of his group on the Amazigh channel. During the month of Ramadan 2021, in a program, where he showed the clip of the song “ASAKA” for the first time before publishing it on his own YouTube channel, “Ismail Titaou”, which is considered one of his first works, after he became a solo singer outside the first singing group “Free Life”.
The song “ASAKA” was released on March 13, 2022, and the lyrics were inspired by the art of Ahidos “Tazdamt” Malaab, mixing and mastering by Omran Azrour, photography by Walid Ait Al-Haw, editing by Hamza Titao.
He released the song “TAQBURT” on April 29, 2023, and its lyrics stem from the depth of the art of “Ahidos Agbour” N. Malaab, mixed by mastering by Omran Azrour, and edited by Hamza Titao.
On September 19, 2023, he sang the song TAMURT INW, from the words of Moha Ben Sain, mixed by Rashid Al-Shabab, and his last artistic work was Gar ils, which was released on May 25, 2024, with words by Ahmed Rassam, mixed by Rashid Al-Shabab. It is a song that carries many meanings and deep values from the heritage. Amazigh.
The young artist will present artistic works, including a song entitled “WA YMA”, written and directed by Ismail Titao, mixed and mastered by Rashid Al-Shabab.
Ismail Titao is considered a model of the Amazigh artist who took up music and poetry in an effort to preserve the Amazigh cultural heritage and present it in modern ways that suit the tastes of current generations, while preserving the essence of this authentic heritage.
The Ismail Titao artistic group consists of Youssef Titao, a soloist harp player, and Rashid Al-Shabab, a pianist and recording artist.
