Turkish citizens in Hatay state, southern Turkey, found a rare species of bird that was on the verge of extinction, for the first time in the country's history.
In an interview published by Anatolia Agency, Emin Yogurtcuoglu, a bird watcher in Hatay, said that they noticed the “charcoal shearling” bird flying over a lake in the Samandag region.
He added that this happened while they were watching birds, accompanied by his friends Murat Bozdogan and Ahu Elbay.

He explained that with the discovery of this bird in Türkiye, the number of bird species registered in his country rose to 494 species.
He pointed out that 387 species of these birds are found in Hatay Province.
In a related context, Yogurtcuoglu said that the “coal shearling” bird usually lives in ocean areas.

He stated that this bird had not previously appeared in Türkiye, indicating that it is a species of bird that is on the verge of extinction.
