Last week, archaeologists found a sword with an octagonal handle dating back more than 3,000 years in the Donau-Ries region of Bavaria, southern Germany, according to CNN.
According to a statement from the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Antiquities, the sword is still in good condition, preserving its luster and luster.
The researchers believe that the sword dates back to the end of the fourteenth century BC (the Middle Bronze Age), noting that finding a sword with an octagonal handle made entirely of bronze is a rare find.
"We still have to carry out further examinations before our archaeologists can classify these fossils more accurately," said Professor Matthias Pfail, head of the Bavarian State Office for Archaeological Conservation.
He added, "The state of preservation is exceptional... like the discovery, which is very rare."
The researchers believe that this sword is a real weapon, as they stated in the statement: "The center of gravity in the front part of the blade indicates that it was made mainly for cutting."
The statement added that the sword was in a tomb containing the remains of three people (a man, a woman and a young man) who were buried during very close periods of time, without knowing the ties of the relationship that brought them together, but they were wealthy people due to the presence of a lot of expensive funerary materials that were inside the grave.
