!The Amazigh language was official in Almohad Andalusia
︎ It is known that all the dynasties that ruled Morocco, in one way or another, used the Amazigh language as a language of expression, verbally and in writing.. There are dozens of examples and testimonies... and the talk here is about a long period of time... starting from the emergence of the first components of the Mauritanian state in the ancient era up to the borders. The 17th century AD... when the Emirate of Ilig Al-Samlalia was still dependent...
︎ However, the degree of demarcation varies and varies from one dynasty to another... Sometimes we find it the only approved language, as is the case with the ancient kingdoms and Burghawata... while we find Amazigh -Arabic bilingualism in most countries of the Middle Ages... while its use was limited to some as a language of daily communication. Only... in the worst case scenario, if we consider that Morocco was ruled by 11 major dynasties 10 of them used Amazigh as the language of communication in the royal court!
︎ But the unique situation appears in the care that the Almohad state gave to the Amazigh language during its reign... and the advanced degree of demarcation that it enjoyed... The author of Al-Jalal Al-Moushi tells us that the Amazigh language enjoyed a status equal to the Arabic language... However, Other historical documents reveal to us another situation... mastering the Amazigh language was one of the conditions for holding high positions... as is the case with the Imam of Fez, Mehdi Ben Issa, who was removed because he was not fluent in Amazigh.
︎ It appears from this incident that the Amazigh language did not only enjoy an equal status... but rather a preference because it is an indispensable condition for taking up public speaking...
︎ Another amazing situation that supports this proposition is told to us by Ibn Sahib al-Salaah in his book The History of Manna through Imamate.. As one of those present at the Almohad Palace in Seville during the official reception that took place on April 7, 1173.
︎ After the great victory achieved by the Almohad army over the army of Castile-León, which raided the countryside outside the city of Abla... the military commanders had to appear before the Almohad caliph to submit their reports... Ibn Sahib Al-Salaat says:
[The ascetic Sheikh Abu Muhammad Abd al-Wahid bin Omar first preached in the Western language, expressing it to the Almohads in their language and explanation, then he explained it in the Arabic language to their people (the Andalusians)...].
︎ The passage is very clear, especially with the simple language of the son of the author of the prayer... and it appears through it that the sermons spoken in the “Amazigh language” take precedence over those spoken in the Arabic language... This is an indication of the priority that the Amazigh language had in Andalusia, similar to the rest of Morocco... and in it it was Official activities are carried out and political and military life is conducted...
