It may explode soon.. a huge sunspot threatens the earth
Today, Tuesday, solar scientists warned of a recently discovered huge sunspot, dubbed AR3055, which is believed to be exploding soon.
The astronomer saidApollo LaskyIn a statement yesterday, posted on SpaceWeather.com: "A great-looking sunspot crosses the center of the solar disk, and a new large dark nucleus has just appeared at the tip," explaining that it "is almost directly facing Earth, posing a threat to our way of life."
He pointed out that "the width of the sunspot is more than 6,100 miles (about 100,000 km), and it appears that scientists are not sure whether AR3055 grew to its current size from an existing spot, or evolved rapidly on its own over the weekend, according to to SpaceWeather.com, which also shared animated images of the sunspot, which contains dozens of swirling cores of magnetic energy.
AR3055 appears to be extremely energetic, and a sunspot like it could lead to a potentially harmful Class M solar flare, or high-energy radiation emissions that could last for hours.
M-Class flares are medium in size, but have the ability to trigger radio outages in space and here on Earth.
The flares release plasma from the sun's outermost layer, or corona, and when the shock wave hits, it's called coronal mass emission (CME)CME), our planet's atmosphere eventually - which takes about eight minutes - creates geomagnetic storms with varying effects on satellites, GPS and energy networks in the areas they hit, as well as natural processes, including migration in field-dependent animals. Magnetic to move around.
The last M-class glow threatening the Earth was seen emanating from sunspot AR3038 last month, as scientists warned of a possible radio silence lasting about 10 minutes due to these sunspots.
Sunspots appear as dark areas of the sun, where they are cooler than other parts of the surface, meaning that they are concentrations of relatively low temperatures caused by magnetic flux.
