The head of the Amazigh World Assembly calls on the head of the Libyan government to support the Supreme Council of the Amazighs of Libya 1727
Following the announcement of the Supreme Council of the Amazighs of Libya, the beginning of the formation of a constitutional body for the fourth administrative region through direct election, due to the failure of the political parties to find a consensual constitutional basis, the Amazigh Global Gathering renews its strong support and backing for this important step aimed at establishing an Amazigh region as a fourth region in the country, similar to the other regions. The other three are Cyrenaica, Fezzan, and Tripolitania.
The Amazigh Global Gathering had previously expressed its absolute support for this important step in the path of rehabilitating Amazigh rights within the framework of a unified and strong federal state with democratic institutions that protect the rights of all Libyans without discrimination or exclusion.
Soon, the Amazigh World Assembly demanded that autonomy be given to the Amazigh regions in the various countries of North Africa, according to the framework of the “Tamzga Charter” for a democratic and social confederation that transcends borders, based on the right to self-rule for the regions, in the various countries of North Africa, which is the project that was adopted by The International Amazigh Assembly in the general assembly in Tiznit on December 15, 2013. In more than one statement, the assembly denounced the deprivation of the Amazighs, who contributed strongly to the February revolution that liberated Libya from decades of tyranny and dictatorship, of their cultural, linguistic, political and social rights. He expressed great disappointment at the continued exclusion of Amazigh men and women from political negotiations and from the proposed draft constitution.
In this regard, and in line with what was emphasized by the head of the Interim National Unity Government in Libya, Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba, in previous statements, when he said, “The Amazighs have the right to demand a constitution that guarantees them all rights, and that the Amazighs have the right to obtain their cultural rights.” He considered that “ The most horrible thing that a person may experience is the obliteration of his identity, and the strength of our society lies in its diversity.”
The head of the Amazigh World Assembly calls on the head of the Libyan government to support the Supreme Council of the Amazighs of Libya 1-118
For these reasons, the Amazigh World Assembly:
The head of the Libyan government, Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba, calls for the support of the Supreme Council of the Amazighs of Libya in this important step in the context of removing their legitimate gains on the basis of a federal political system that guarantees all components of the Libyan people the right to conduct their affairs according to their local privacy.
Mr. Dbeiba calls for vigilance and work to find an agreed-upon formula for a pluralistic democratic constitution that includes recognition of linguistic and cultural pluralism and that the Amazigh language is an official language alongside Arabic, similar to the Moroccan and Algerian constitutions.
The Amazigh World Assembly also calls on the President of the Libyan National Unity Government to recognize the Amazigh New Year as a national holiday and an official holiday for all Libyans.
