A Turkish Company Is Implementing A Successful Agricultural Project In The Algerian Desert
The Turkish company "Sarl Donizer" has succeeded in implementing an agricultural project in the Algerian city of Adrar, located in the south of the country, in the middle of the Sahara desert.
The company affiliated with the Turkish “Dakinsan” group, within the framework of its agricultural project, produced wheat, barley, alfalfa and lentils in its farm, which extends over an area of 4 thousand hectares (a hectare equals 10,000 square meters) in the city of Adrar.
The success of the Turkish company also drew attention from the Algerian authorities, as the governor of Adrar, Bahloul El-Arabi, accompanied by Ankara’s ambassador to Algeria, Mahienour Ozdemir Aktash, conducted an inspection visit to the “Sarl Donnaiser” farm.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Hakki Kalashoglu, director of the Turkish "Sarl Donnaiser" company, said that their project started last year as an experimental step, until it turned into a professional project by 2023.
He added that they planted 60,000 trees on an area of 420 hectares.
The Turkish company aims to plant an additional 3,000 hectares, and produce fruits on an area of 300 hectares, in addition to allocating 4 hectares for the production of vegetables in professional greenhouses.
The goals of the Turkish “Sarl Donizer” are not limited to agriculture only, but also include livestock, as it started raising livestock in an effort to develop the project, according to Kalashoglu.
Regarding the reason for choosing southern Algeria to implement their project, Kalashoglu said that the region is characterized by low cost, abundant energy and labor resources, as well as easy access to groundwater.
