Casablanca hosts the first International Festival of Moroccan Musical Heritage
The Moroccan Musical Heritage Foundation is organizing the first edition of the International Festival of Moroccan Musical Heritage, from the 11th to the 13th of May in Al-Machour, Al-Hbous district, Casablanca.
During a press conference held on Tuesday in Casablanca to shed light on this festival, the organizers highlighted that this artistic event organized under the slogan “Moroccan Musical Heritage: A Spiritual Connection between Generations” aims to introduce the rich musical heritage in Morocco in its various artistic and social expressions.
They pointed out that this program, rich in its musical paragraphs, will allow the audience to realize the way in which the convergence of music and creativity, in different cultures of Moroccan civilization, was expressed in a production of great depth and richness.
The program includes the participation of Moroccan musical groups (orchestral groups of artists of the new generations, Gnawa, Aita, Jil Jilala, Aissaoua...), in addition to round tables, on several topics, in particular, “Moroccan musical heritage between yesterday and today,” and “art and science.” as two tools for transmitting spiritual values”.
In its first edition, the organizers add, this festival aims to spread Moroccan culture at the national, African and international levels, and to preserve, develop and enhance the privacy of traditional Moroccan cultural heritage in the face of current artistic currents.
It is also about urging young people to own this cultural heritage and know what it contains of sciences, arts and roots, by highlighting the Moroccan heritage, its specificities and meaning, and what it contains of poems, praises and secrets to heal bodies and minds.
This festival aims to preserve the deep values that are based on wisdom and spirituality and protect them from external influences that exist in all segments of society, and contribute to introducing the Middle East and other African, even Western and American, to the depth and specificity of Moroccan popular culture based on respect for all religions and cultures.
On this occasion, the head of the Moroccan Musical Heritage Foundation, Mohamed Ezz Al-Arab Berrada, highlighted that organizing the International Festival of Musical Heritage is one of the foundation's tasks, indicating that this festival will be an extension of the International Festival of the Issawiya Order, which was organized in 2018 and 2019.
In this context, he indicated that this musical event aims to promote and develop not only the Issawiya order, but all Moroccan musical heritage for all regions of Morocco, adding that the Foundation aspires, in addition to this annual festival, which lasts for three days, to continue responding to the requirements of permanent thinking about heritage. For his part, the artistic director of the festival, Abd al-Hamid al-Sibai, highlighted that the festival constitutes an opportunity to present a new coexistence of traditional Moroccan musical styles, noting that after the success of many Andalusian musical artistic creations (mixing Hazrat Chefchaouenia, Granati, Aissaoua, and others), “ Today, we are innovating this time by choosing to unify Gnawa and Aita, Jilala and Aissaoua, in order to create a new synergy for these musical genres in the innovations that the art develops.”
He concluded that by blending different but complementary traditions, the festival aims to make this cultural heritage better known, adding that innovation to develop art can make it more dynamic and lead to strengthening cohesion and sharing “our heritage with citizens and others.”
