Despite its constitutional recognition in July 2011, the generalization of the Amazigh language is still a long way off.
The forum’s presentation indicated that “despite the adoption of Organizational Law 26-16 related to activating the official character of Amazigh, and Framework Law 51-17 on education reform, and despite the decisions and promises of many ministers from various governments, the dilemma of teaching Amazigh still remains. . “They could not even pass half a million out of the 4.5 million children in primary school.” Likewise, “the number of teachers teaching Tamazight remained very limited, and did not exceed 400 teachers annually!
It is expected that this National Forum for the Amazighs of Morocco, in its second edition, which will be attended and attended by teachers of the Amazigh language and human rights and civil actors from various regions of Morocco, will focus on institutional constraints and obstacles to the advancement of the Amazigh language, especially in the field of education, after the introduction of the regulatory law related to the activation of the official character. of the Amazigh language into force, as well as “problems that impede the application of the law related to the officialization of the Amazigh language.”
The conveners will also address the “urgent institutional arrangements that must be taken for its generalization and the problem of human resources and the budget, in addition to” the absence of generalizing the teaching of the Amazigh language in primary education and in the primary and secondary stages in the road map 2022-2026 of the current Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports.
One of the objectives of the National Forum is to “raise awareness of the Moroccan educational authorities about the importance of generalizing the teaching of the Amazigh language as a mother tongue, and as one of the most effective means to protect the Moroccan school, and to search for ways and means to put pressure on the Moroccan government to make it understand that the education project in the Amazigh language is an urgent project and a priority to improve the quality of the school.” generality.”
Participants will also discuss “reviewing the content of textbooks and school curricula in relation to rewriting the history of Morocco and North Africa,” and the importance of “the involvement of Amazigh teachers in civil society and the defense of Amazigh values and human rights.”
