Algeria: IMOHAG strongly condemns the violations against the displaced after their deportation by the Algerian gendarmerie.
IMOHAG International has received a number of reports of serious violations suffered by more than 150 Tuareg families during their deportation by the Algerian authorities from the Ain Jezzam region to the two border cities of Asmaqa. Where the organization obtained assurances and evidence from relatives of the victims that their relatives were subjected to violence, ill-treatment and humiliation by the Algerian gendarmerie, then those who fled from the oppression of “ISIS” left everything behind and survived with their lives, and they no longer had any choice but to go to the nearest neighboring country, which was Algeria.
Our objection here is not only to the forcible deportation of people fleeing death, but to be assaulted with similar brutality and left in a desert cut off from people in a manner similar to a mass execution.
As IMOHAG International expresses its deep sorrow for what befell these families, the Algerian authorities remind that returning them contradicts the principle of non-refoulement in international law. We call on the Algerian authorities to open an immediate investigation into the incident and punish the perpetrators. for them.
