The Semitic Prefecture of the Amazigh language has issued a new book to enrich the Amazigh library, and it is related to “A Great French-Amazigh Dictionary” by Abdelhafid Idris.
The great French-amazigh dictionary by the independent researcher Abdelhafid Idris is considered an enrichment of the dictionary that he published in 2003 in cooperation with Rabah Madi.
The dictionary, which includes 65,000 words, is considered a valuable linguistic and terminological resource in a context in which the Amazigh language, an official language since the ratification of the new constitution of 2016, is increasingly present at the level of state institutions. Therefore, it was necessary to prepare a rich and accurate dictionary to facilitate translation and achieve the goal of including the Amazigh language in institutions.
The dictionary is the result of several years of effort and research, to which Abdelhafid Idris contributed with a large number of researchers from the Amazigh linguistic field, especially the linguistics specialist Yacine Zidane from the Amazigh Language Department at the University of Tizi Ouzou, to collect the largest possible number of words that are proven in use in his hometown in the region. tribes. In addition to a large number of linguistic terms in constant use that were collected in the field, The dictionary is based on references and dictionaries that include almost all the main Amazigh dialects (particularly Chawi, Kabylie, Rifiya, Chahli, Tuareg, and others).
