A video explaining why ballpoint pens have a small hole in the top of the cap has captured the attention of thousands online.

The company's website explains, "The reason there is a hole in some pens is to prevent the cap from completely blocking the airway if it is accidentally inhaled."
The website added: “This is required by international safety standards, except in cases where the lid is considered too large to pose a suffocation risk.”
