Beautiful Toya mask
The Mask of the Beautiful Tuya is a funerary mask made of plaster with gold leaves, of Tuya, wife of Tuya, mother of Queen Tiye, and grandmother of Tutankhamun. It was discovered in the Valley of the Kings in Thebes.
Tjuyu (15th century BC in Akhmim - 1370s BC) was a divine singer and director of religious ceremonies for the gods Min and Amun in the Karnak Temple in Luxor, Egypt. She was the wife of one of the senior officials during the reign of King Amenhotep III, namely Yuya. This king married their daughter, whose name was Tiye. Amenhotep III ruled Egypt between 1388 and 1351, according to the German historian Helk (or between 1390 and 1353, according to Krauss).
Its name is in hieroglyphics
The first letter is pronounced like the Arabic letter “thaa” and is symbolized in the nakhara by the symbol ṯ, but the symbol itself throughout Egyptian history was interchangeable with the symbol and pronounced as the letter “tā.” The name can be pronounced as “Thawya,” but it was mostly pronounced “Tuya” due to the interchangeability and ease of pronouncing the “ta” from the “tha” in the Egyptian tongue.
Her family and nicknames
Her daughter, Tiye, was nicknamed “The Great Royal Wife.” She was married to King Amenhotep III and gave birth to King Akhenaten. Tuya also gave birth to a son named “Aanen,” who was a second-class priest in the Temple of Amun in Karnak.
