Gilded funerary mask of Mrs. Merit
A very beautiful gilded funerary mask of a woman called “Merita”, who was the wife of “Kha-o-Gha”, who was considered the architect of King Amenhotep II of the 18th Dynasty, and their tomb is considered the best non-royal tomb from ancient Egypt. The Italian mission took the mask along with some of the tomb’s walls and its relics.
Amenhotep II was the seventh king of the Eighteenth Dynasty. He was the son of King Thutmose III and his wife, Queen Meretre Hatshepsut, who appears with him in scenes on the walls of his tomb. His father participated in the rule until his death, as told to us by the military commander Amenemhab - Ma’hu, one of the leaders in The army of King Tuthmosis III in the context of his talk about the latter’s death, and it is believed that he ruled from 1427 to 1401 BC.
Amenhotep II gave birth to his successor, Thutmose IV, from his wife and sister, Queen Ti Aa. It is believed that Amenhotep may have had five male children other than Thutmose IV, who is the youngest among them. This is in addition to a number of daughters, including Princess Yaaret, who married Thutmose IV to become queen later.
It is now located in the Ignisio Museum in Turin, Italy.
