Victory celebration scene
Victory celebration scene 1--1470
A majestic scene showing the greatness of the Assyrian Empire. King Ashurbanipal (669-631) in the year BC, riding a luxurious chariot in a scene celebrating victory over the enemy. We see an umbrella at the top of the chariot to protect the king from the burning rays of the sun. The genius Assyrian sculptor showed the size of the king larger than the rest of his entourage. As a form of glorification and honor for the king’s personality
And to distinguish him from the rest of his entourage, so that subsequent generations will recognize the great king Ashurbanipal, who raises his hand to greet the people.
The chariot is elegantly decorated, drawn by horses, and rests on two large spiked wheels. A number of King Ashurbanipal’s guards walk with the chariot and behind it in a joyful festive scene.
The mural is in the British Museum
