This year's show won't bring major changes. All awards will be broadcast live. The Academy will add a new award for Best Acting Ensemble, but that award will not be presented until the 2026 Academy Awards , meaning for the 2025 films.
This will be the first time that a new competitive gold statue has been added to Hollywood's most important awards ceremony in more than two decades. On January 23, the full list of Oscar nominations, and the films and actors who will be competing for the awards during the ceremony, was revealed .
Oppenheimer led the race with 13 nominations, followed by the Emma Stone-led Poor Things, which received 11 nominations, Killers of the Flower Moon, which received 10 nominations, while last year's biggest hit, Barbie, received eight nominations.

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer is the frontrunner. Nolan is strongly nominated to be Best Director, and if he wins the award, it will be his first Oscar .
In the Best Actress category, it may be between Lily Gladstone for the movie Killers of the Flower Moon and Emma Stone for the movie Poor Things. If Gladstone wins, she will be the first Native American to win an Oscar.

In the Best Actor category, it could be a close race between Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) and Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers) for Best Actor. Both will be first-time winners.
