The origin of Sargon II
The origin of Sargon II 1--296
Scientists and researchers went to various schools of thought regarding the origin of Sargon II and the extent of his relationship with the Assyrian royal dynasty. However, this mystery did not last long among specialists. The researcher (Ekard Anker) was able to find an Assyrian glazed book bearing the name, lineage, and titles of Sargon II, and it appeared that he was the king’s son. The Assyrian Tiglath-pileser III, and thus King Sargon is a brother of King Shalmaneser V, who ruled before him. The translation of this writing is as follows:
“The palace of Sargon, the great king, the mighty king, the king of the world, the king of Assyria, the son of Toukalti, Abal-i-Ashra (Tijlat-Pileser), the king of Assyria.
In a text by Sargon, llu-bidi criticizes the ruler of Hama for saying that he is descended from a royal lineage. Perhaps this indicates that Sargon descends from a royal lineage.
