Twelfth Dynasty of Egypt
Twelfth Dynasty of Egypt 1---1215
The Twelfth Dynasty of Egypt: This dynasty is considered by Egyptologists to be the pinnacle of the Middle Kingdom, and it is the last dynasty in the Egyptian Middle Kingdom. The Twelfth Dynasty ruled for 189 years (from 1991 - 1802 BC).
The chronology of the Twelfth Dynasty is the most stable of any pre-New Kingdom period. The historian Manetho mentioned that the seat of government was in Thebes, but contemporary records showed that the first king of this dynasty (Amenemhat I) had moved the seat of government to a new city called Eg-Tawi. The site of Eg Tawi has not yet been discovered, but it is believed to be located close to Fayoum, perhaps near the royal tombs at Lisht.
The order of the kings of the Twelfth Dynasty is well known from several sources, the first of which are two lists recorded in temples: one at Abydos and the other at Saqqara, as well as lists derived from the works of Manetho. The history recorded during the reign of Senusret III can be linked to the Suthian cycle, and thus, the year of the occurrence of many events during the era of this dynasty can be accurately determined.
We will review all the kings of the Twelfth Dynasty, each king in a separate post, along with everything we know to collect about each king
