Nimrod is a character
Biblical character Nimrod is described in the Book of Genesis as “the first mighty man on earth, and he was a mighty hunter before the Lord.”
It is said that the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, Erech, and Akkad in the land of Shinar, and it is said that Nimrod after that built modern Nineveh, Calah, and Nimrod.
There is a consensus among Bible scholars that the mention of Nimrod in the Book of Genesis is a reference not to an individual but to an ancient people in Mesopotamia.
We do not know of any ancient figure in Mesopotamia, mythological or historical, called Nimrod. Thus, scholars have struggled to determine whom the biblical authors are describing.
The cities “founded” by Nimrod do not refer to any historical period; Some of these cities did not exist at the same time. Uruk was one of the oldest cities in the world and remained an important place throughout antiquity. On the other hand, the city of Akkad was founded in the twenty-fourth century, and was destroyed in the twenty-first century. Kalah and Nineveh only rose to prominence in the ninth century and were destroyed in the late seventh century, and Dur-Sharrukin was shorter-lived, flourishing only for a few years in the eighth century.
Thus, some scholars have suggested that Nimrod was based on a mythological deity or demigod, such as the Sumerian gods Ninurta, Nergal, or the Babylonian Marduk – all of whom had a reputation as great hunters – who were humanized by the biblical version.
