The Cave of Theopetra is an archaeological site located in Meteora, in the Central Greek region of Thessaly.
Radiocarbon evidence shows human presence at least 50,000 years ago.
Excavations began in 1987 under the supervision of Ν. Kyparissi-Apostolika, which was supposed to answer questions about the Paleolithic in Thessaly, Greece.
As a result of archaeological excavations conducted over the years, it has been revealed that Theopetra Cave was inhabited by humans 130,000 years ago.
In addition, evidence of human habitation in Theopetra Cave can be traced uninterruptedly from the Middle Paleolithic to the end of the Neolithic.
This is important, because it allows archaeologists to better understand the prehistoric period in Greece.!!
