Genome of the African population
The majority of Africans do not carry Neanderthal DNA. on the other hand Non-African populations, on the other hand, inherited on average 1 to 3% of the Neanderthal genome. This is because interbreeding between Homo sapiens and Neanderthals occurred primarily outside of Africa, after the first modern humans left the continent.
However, recent studies have revealed that some West African populations have traces of archaic DNA from an unknown ancient human species, sometimes called a “ghost,” that is not Neanderthal. This discovery suggests that although Neanderthal DNA is not present in these African populations, they have their own complex genetic heritage resulting from ancient interbreeding with other archaic human species.
In summary, while Africans generally do not carry Neanderthal DNA, there is a rich and complex genetic diversity within African populations, which includes contributions from other ancient human groups. This highlights the complexity of our evolutionary history and the richness of human genetic heritage
