On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Association of Amazigh Language Teachers in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, in partnership with the Regional Center for Education and Training Professions in Tangier, and in coordination with the Amazigh Studies Division at the same center, organized a study day on the topic: “The experience of teaching the Amazigh language in primary education, the outcome and obstacles to generalization.”

This training day included three sessions. After receiving the audience and welcoming speeches, the discussion began in the first session, with the topic of school legislation related to the Amazigh language subject, moderated by Dr. Abdullah Igla, who shed light on the status of the Amazigh language in Moroccan schools, following the legislative and regulatory path that accompanied the stages of Integrating the Amazigh language into primary education, expressing his opinions and perceptions on the subject.

As for the second session, it was devoted to discussing the curriculum in its part related to the Amazigh subject, where attendance was scheduled with the interventions of each of D. Jamal Al-Din Belhaj, D.L. Saleh Al Marini, LLC. Aziz Al-Touzani, the participants focused on a number of theoretical issues related to the academic curriculum, as well as the problems posed by downloading the curriculum, through practical examples and field experiences.

As for the third and final session of this school day, it was an opportunity to discuss the currentity of teaching Amazigh and the prospects for generalization. It contributed to activating the work of this session. Idris Al-Omarini, Mr. Rachid Al-Gharnati, LLC. Ismail Al-Siddiqi, the participants presented a diagnosis of the current reality of teaching the Amazigh language, with an analysis of the various factors that contributed to the emergence of this situation, which is characterized by the multiplicity of problems facing the improvement of the teaching of the Amazigh language, and the obstacles to its dissemination at various educational levels and disciplines.

This school day was also marked by the important presence of practicing professors from the various regional directorates of the region, as well as trainee professors at the Regional Center for Education and Training Professions - Amazigh Studies Division, which contributed to enriching the discussion, as the meeting sessions took place in an atmosphere characterized by interaction and purposeful discussion, which made it possible to formulate a number of Conclusions and recommendations.
