Timitar Festival...a diverse program in which Amazigh music intersects with world music
The organizers of the “Timitar, Signs and Cultures” festival announced the organization of the 19th session, during the period extending from next July 4 to 6 in Agadir, with a rich and diverse program in which Amazigh music intersects with world music.
The Timitar Festival Association said that the programming of this session, organized under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, reflects “a musical diversity that celebrates world music, through an artistic synthesis that blends the art of rai, jazz, pop, visual, electronic and African music,” adding that The 2024 edition “remains true to its permanent slogan, “Amazigh artists welcome the music of the world,” a slogan that is highlighted through programming that hosts distinguished artists from all over the world, Their goal is to share a passion and musical obsession with Amazigh artists and the great Agadir audience.”
She pointed out that the festival’s platforms will receive “the artist Hamid Enerzaf, Awdaden, and the Ahwach bands from Taliouine, Tata and Emintanot, in addition to the music of the new generation, led by the artist Fatima Tashtoukt, Karim Lajawad, Jobantuga, Tasuta Nimal, Meteor Airlines and Rabab Vision, in addition to “Symbolic tributes to the art of Rawais, to savor poetry and Amazigh heritage in its authenticity.” Young people who love visuals and Arab pop will also have a share in the festival’s programme, as they will enjoy the voices of Faya Younan, Hamza Namira, Abu, Douzi, Zakaria Ghafouli, Hasba Groove, and the artist Oum.
On the other hand, she adds, the Timitar platform also reflects the cultural diversity of Africa through its openness to the depth of African music. With the African Amazonian Band and the Cesaria Evora Orchestra, which will symbolically honor Cesaria Evora, in the presence of artists Ilda Almeida, Sezani and Tofilio Shanter, in addition to Kale Assouf, Imad Alibi, Justin Adams and Ali Imran.
For lovers of jazz and soul, Samar Fanni brings together Jamal Al-Din Takoma, the accomplished guitarist from Philadelphia, with the talented artist Mehdi Qamoum from Agadir and Said Ouzous in a musical work that promises an opulent musical journey that mixes jazz, funk, and R&B with a global Susi taste that promises a lot.
The art of rap has a strong presence this session, as the festival highlights two of the innovators and innovators of rap in Souss: Dada, the rapper Ibn Agadir, who blends the Amazigh dialect and English in a smooth way, and Distankt, the international contemporary artist whose music travels across borders.
The organizers said that this year, Timitar platforms will host international electronic music such as DJ Omari, DJ Maka, Deep Soul, NDRK and DJ Flava. They are accompanied by animated visual performances from fidji art, such as the artist El More and the artist Radim. The festival will be held in three symbolic platforms in the city of Agadir, the Hope Square platform, the Begawan Square and the open-air theatre, each of which reflects an artistic style targeting a specific audience to touch all tastes.
