"Icon of the Seas"...the largest cruise ship in the world will launch in 2024
A vessel set to be the world's largest cruise ship has been completed at a shipyard in Finland and has made its first open water trial ahead of potential delivery in October this year.
The largest ship in the world is called “Icon of the Seas”. The ship was manufactured in Finland by the shipbuilding company known as Royal Caribbean International and has a capacity of 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew members.
The “Icon of the Seas” is five times larger and heavier than the Titanic, with a weight of 250,800 tons compared to 50,210 tons for the Titanic.Royal Caribbean International is a cruise line company headquartered in Miami, Florida. The ship was built at the Meyer Turku shipyard, located in Finland.
At a press conference at the ship's site earlier this year, Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bailey told media that the vessel was on track to join the company's fleet on October 26 ahead of its debut in 2024. .
Royal Caribbean International is showcasing the Icon of the Seas ship as the pinnacle of the cruise line's evolution, using the latest technologies resulting from 50 years of learning in the company's history.
“We are marketing it as the ultimate family vacation destination,” Bailey added. “When one sees all the energy and time that has gone into building this ship, it is amazing.”
Its goal is to satisfy all desires
The ship promises more than 40 dining, drinking and entertainment experiences.
The idea of the ship is to meet the desires of all people on board, with areas designated for families, as well as areas designated for adults only.
There are 28 different types of accommodation, with more categories available for families and more space for groups traveling.
The vehicle is also Royal Caribbean International's first ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fuel cell technology, as part of the company's effort to transition to clean energy in the future.
In a joint venture with ITM Group, Royal Caribbean announced in early 2019 the launch of Holistica, a company that aspires to develop cruise destinations.
One of those destinations that the company will develop is the Grand Lucaine Resort in the Bahamas.
On July 10, 2020, it purchased the remaining shares of Silversea Cruises. In the same month, the company's name was changed to Royal Caribbean Group and its logo was modified.
