"Assif" wins the grand prize of "Tafsout" in Tafraout
The short film “Assif” by director Yassin Ait Faqir won the Grand Prize of the sixth edition of the “Tafsout Festival for Amazigh Maghreb Cinema”.
This came on the evening of Saturday, August 10, 2024, in the city of Tafraout, at the conclusion of the activities of the sixth session of the festival organized by the “Anaruz Association for Development and Cultural Communication”, during the period between the 7th and 11th of this month.
Director Yassin Ait Faqir said that “Asif” discusses the problem of rural girls’ schooling due to the distance of schools, and also seeks to provide a set of mechanisms that can provide opportunities for these girls to attend school in appropriate conditions.
Professor and film director Ait Faqir added in a statement to “The Amazigh World” that “he worked on the film with all his love with his students, since he is an elementary school teacher and works in the rural world, specifically the village of Tidli, which is part of the Sour Schools Group.” He said that “he had previously won a number of awards, both in Morocco and abroad.”
The director, who has produced a number of documentaries, explained that “the beauty of the film lies in its simplicity, because he worked with simple possibilities, but at the same time he tried to use a poetic style and depth in the approach.”
The jury of this session, which includes director Hakim Belabbes, theater actor Miloud El Habashi, and actor Abdallah Chekiri, announced that Nassima Atef won the Best Actress award for her role in the film “Assif,” shared with actress Fatima Zahra Ahrar for the films “Nafs” and “The Road to the Unknown.” The jury also praised the role of Hassan Aghoulid and his distinguished performance in the film “Letters of Colors.”
The closing day witnessed the honoring of director Fatima Ali Boubakdi and actresses Shimaa Alaoui and Raja Kharmaz, and the festival concluded with an artistic evening by the “Ithran” group.
