? Does a NASA image show a 'gateway to another world' on Mars
One of the latest footage released by Curiosity's rover on Mars has revealed something rather interesting in the rocks.
A recent image of the Curiosity probe showed a strange rock formation on the red planet that appears to be a perfectly carved entrance into the landscape of Mars, but is not actually evidence of space activity.
The rock formation looked so convincingly and terrifyingly like a door that some began to believe that it led to a small lair on Mars, or perhaps a gateway to another world altogether.
Others described it as a "tunnel to the center of the planet" or "the entrance to a secret underground tunnel".
However, the more sensible people on the popular Reddit blog point out that this was likely a fracture as a result of some kind of stress on the rock breaking part of it, possibly caused by an earthquake or two.
In fact, the largest earthquake ever recorded on the Red Planet occurred on May 4 this year, and scientists are still working to determine exactly where and what caused it.

While the door-like rock formation may appear full-size in our imaginations, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory explained that the image is actually "a very, very magnified shot of a small crack in a rock."
A spokesperson for JPL told snopes via email: The lab scientists confirmed how small (the slit) is, at about 30 cm wide and 45 cm high (11 x 17 inches).

A larger, color version of the original image can be seen here . The entrance is at the top of the composite image, slightly to the left of the center.
The image was taken on May 7, 2022, by Curiosity's Mast Camera in a feature known as Greenheugh Pediment, a system that uses a fixed focal length and multispectral imaging system to capture "true color" images of the red planet and beyond.
