2,000-YEAR-OLD TORTOISE FOUND IN ITALY
Archaeologists in Italy say they have discovered a tortoise in the ancient city of Pompeii that is about 2,000 years old. The tortoise, which was found in the remains of the ancient city at the foot of the volcano Vesuvius, dates back to 62 AD, after the earthquake but before the volcanic eruption in 79 AD. This discovery sheds light on the last years of Pompeii, in the period of reconstruction after the earthquake, said park director Gabriel Zustregel, according to the German.
The pictures showed the head of the tortoise and its carapace, and according to archaeologists, this is not the first time that an important discovery has been announced during excavations and excavations.
According to Zustregel, the scientists found an egg inside the turtle, prompting speculation that it might have been hiding to find a place to lay it, a pattern followed by Hermann's tortoise species.
The turtle was found in the “Stabian Springs” or “Stabian Baths” area of the Roman city, which was buried under ash, mud and lava in 79 AD, with its features partially preserved. Pompeii was rediscovered in the 18th century, and the excavation site is now one of Italy's most popular tourist attractions.
