The opening of the activities of the international conference on “Amazighness in northern Morocco, linguistic manifestations” in Martil
Today, Thursday, at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences in Martil, the activities of the international conference on “Amazighness in North Morocco, Linguistic Aspects” opened.
This conference, supported by university bodies and Moroccan and international research centers, aims to explore the scientific and academic aspects of Moroccan culture and linguistic variations in its linguistic dimension, and to address Amazigh and its linguistic manifestations in northern Morocco, whether at the phonemic, lexical or semantic level, with a research focus on linguistic variety. , which is in the process of extinction.
This conference, which recognizes the participation of experts and academics interested in Northern Tamazight from Morocco, Spain, Holland, America, Belgium, the United States of America, Mali and France, is a scientific and academic opportunity to study the linguistic variations of Northern Tamazight, which is part of the living language of Tamazight, which belongs to the Afro-Asian language family.
The interventionists considered that the Amazigh linguistic variety, such as Tamazight Tachelhit, took its right from scientific and academic studies, as the language policy adopted during the Spanish colonial period in northern Morocco did not allow the development of scientific research in this variety, unlike its counterpart in the south and center.
The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Martil, Mustafa Al-Ghashi, highlighted, in a statement to M24, the news channel of the Maghreb Arab News Agency, that the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences in Martil had been prepared for this conference two years ago, but that the conditions of the pandemic prevented the completion of this scientific and academic project.
Mr. El-Ghashi added that the topic of the conference, which is organized over three days, is an important topic and has its currentness, because Amazigh is a constitutional subject before it is an academic subject, and Tamazight, with its various linguistic branches, constitutes the second language in Morocco, and this topic in general has gained a share of discussion. The general and political cultural, which forces the university to pursue it academically and scientifically.
The Dean indicated that the Moroccan University, especially the University of Abdelmalek El Saadi in terms of its location, has won the scientific lead in discussing this topic, to contribute to deepening the debate on this basic component of the Moroccan personality, identity and culture.
As for the coordinator of the conference, Abdelhadi Amhraf, he considered, in a similar statement, that organizing this academic event falls within the context of celebration and interest in Tamazight in general, and in North Tamazight in particular. UNESCO has previously warned of the threats lurking in some of these diversities.
Researcher Amhraf added that the Ghamra Amazigh, Beni Yaznas Amazigh and Sarayer Amazigh are threatened with extinction, which requires academics, in particular, to deepen scientific and academic research to preserve this cultural and human heritage.
For his part, the professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Martil Abdelaziz Al-Alaty confirmed that the organization of this conference at the University of Abdelmalek Saadi in Tetouan confirms the university’s interest in its cultural, economic and human surroundings, as the university was the first to create a master’s degree specialized in Amazigh in Morocco, which confirms that the university has interest Large in Tamazight in all its branches.
It is noteworthy that the program of the international conference, organized in partnership with the University of Abdelmalek Saadi, includes nine thematic sessions dealing with the study and analysis of the topics “Amazigh varieties from northern Morocco: ancient evidence and their development”, “Amazigh varieties from northern Morocco: phonetic-phonological aspects”, and “Types of Tamazight from northern Morocco: morphological and lexical aspects,” and “Berber varieties from northern Morocco: grammatical aspects.”
