By the English novelist (Herbert J. Wells).
It was printed for the first time in 1936 and is still in print today.
It is a fictional story, in which the author tells us about a strange disease, which spread in a remote village isolated from the world located in the Andes Mountains, causing the disease to blind the villagers.
From that moment on, their connection with the world was cut off, and they never left their village. They adapted to blindness and gave birth to blind children, generation after generation, until all the residents of the village became blind, and not a single sighted person was among them.
One day, while the mountain climber (Nyons) was practicing his hobby, his foot slipped; He fell from the top of the peak into the village. Newnes was not injured.
It fell on the trees of the snowy village.
His first observation was that the houses had no windows, and that their walls were painted in bright colors and in a chaotic manner.
He said to himself: The one who built these houses must have been a blind person.
When he entered the center of the village, he started calling people, and he noticed that they were passing by him and no one was paying attention to him. Here, Newnes knew that he was in (the country of the blind)...
So he went to a group of villagers and began to introduce himself to them: who he was, what were the circumstances that brought him to their village, and how the people in his country (see)...
As soon as he uttered this word, he was bombarded with questions: What is the meaning of “they see”? And how? In what way do people see? The people laughed at him and started laughing.
They even went further than that, when they accused him of insanity, and some of them decided to remove Neon's eyes, as they considered them the source of his delirium and madness.
The hero of the story (Nyons) did not succeed in explaining the meaning of sight, so how can someone who cannot see understand the meaning of sight? So he fled before they gouged out his eyes, wondering: How can blindness become healthy, while sight is a disease?! .
“The country of the blind” is: every society dominated by ignorance, chaos, corruption, backwardness, poverty, violence, and fanaticism, due to invalid ideas that dominate it, and any call to the right path is met with rejection, suspicion, and violence.
This country of the blind is: every society is dominated by sectarianism, hatred of others who are different, and justification for harming everyone who disagrees.
The country of the blind is that society in which there are individuals whose main concern is what to take from it, not what to give to it.
