Sheikh Suleiman Al-Jawsaqi’s slap at Napoleon 11060
He extended his hand and gave Napoleon a strong slap, saying: “Excuse me, Bonaparte, this is not my hand, this is the hand of the people”!!! ..
He is Sheikh Suleiman Al-Jawsaqi!!
▪Sheikh Suleiman Al-Jawsaqi was born in the “Jawsaq” area in Al-Sharqiya Governorate. His family aspired to enroll him in Al-Azhar. When Al-Jawsaqi joined Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, he excelled in his studies even though he was blind, but he conquered the darkness.
▪ Al-Jawsaqi was on a date with fate when the first Cairo revolution broke out against the French soldiers in October 1798. When the violence of the cannons became intense, the people resorted to him, so he asked them to stand firm and said his famous saying: “You are human beings, just like them, so go out to them, and either you will exterminate them or they will exterminate you.”
▪ Al-Jawsaqi’s role did not stop at the point of rhetoric. Rather, he decided to volunteer the blind men, their sect that he headed, and their army in an army to confront the French invasion, as the blind men were the link and spy for Egypt, as they conveyed news of the French camp to the symbols of the popular resistance in Egypt at the time. Al-Jawsaqi also contributed to Conducting a battalion of blind men to carry out assassinations among the French soldiers.
▪ Al-Jawsaqi took out the money he had, and he was wealthy, and he bought weapons and distributed them to the people. Historians say that Al-Jawsaqi used to cross Cairo with his donkey to inspect the barricades and fortresses, inspect the mujahideen’s need for weapons, and order the sending of weapons and supplies to places in need. Al-Jawsaki was behind many French military assassinations.

▪Napoleon learned that “Al-Jousqi” was the password for assassinations, so he decided to arrest him. Napoleon tried to woo him and made him many offers, which he rejected and met with ridicule until he presented him with the biggest offer, which was to make him Sultan of Egypt. The Sheikh showed acceptance of the offer and Napoleon extended his hand to him with a sigh of relief. The Sheikh also extended his right hand to shake hands with him. It was a surprise that he raised his hand to him and sighed. With his left hand, he gave Napoleon Bonaparte a strong slap in the face that he would never forget. The great writer Ali Ahmed Bakathir recorded this situation in his play “The Worm and the Snake” and said in the words of Al-Jawsaqi: “Excuse me, Bonaparte, this is not my hand...this is the hand of the people.” Napoleon became angry. He ordered the man to be killed and his body thrown into the Nile. He was taken by French soldiers to the Citadel Prison for interrogation, trial, and execution. Despite his conviction, he was not executed with the leaders of the revolution who were executed by the French because he was blind. He remained in prison for several months until he met his Lord.
