“Algeria’s Bermuda Triangle” .. the story of “Sifar”, the mysterious city in the desert of Algeria
the story of “Sifar”, the mysterious city in the desert of Algeria 1534
The mysterious city of Sifar is located in the “Tassili N’Ajer” chain in the middle of the Sahara desert in the state of Illizi, southeastern Algeria, and its history goes back thousands of years.
Some scholars say: "Its history dates back to the Neolithic era." Whoever came to the city of Djanet and did not see Sivar, then he did not see anything important, according to the tourist guide in the city of Sifar, Mashar Ibrahim. "Whatever he saw from other places around the world," he says.

Sivar discovery
According to one of the neighbors of the city of Sivar, Ayoub Barca, “Sifar was discovered in the past by the locals, and a European man named Henry Elliott came and announced its discovery; As for the tour guide, it is Sheikh Jibril Ik Muhammad.”
And Ibrahim adds, “This European came to Sivar at the time of French colonization, and the military governor in charge at that time was a Russian colonel, the governor of Djanet state.”
And Sergeant Henry Elliot came to the area where Sheikh Jibril lived, and the two agreed and went down to an area in Sivar and set up their camp center.
The unique tree
In the great desert there is a tree that dates back thousands of years and is not found in the world and the only one in the desert. It is registered and protected by UNESCO.
The age of this tree is about 2000 or 3000 years old, and Sheikh Jibril used to live under this tree.
In the past, many people differed over naming the city, and there are those who say that the name comes from the Niger dates and its sack, so when they saw the area yellow in color, they said it was the dates coming from Niger and the former border area of Tarjah, according to Ibrahim.
The word Sifar means a mountain with yellow stones, and the mountain in Sifar is convex and shaped like yellow dates, hence the name Sifar.

Fees of the jinn or aliens
Various legends and oddities were narrated about Sivar, or the “eighth wonder” as many describe it, which baffled those who visited it and some of its neighbors, including the narration of the lost city and the jinn.
This narration says that the drawings and rock carvings carved on the mountains were drawn by the jinn.
The residents of the region also circulate a narration according to which the drawings on the rocks of the city were not drawn by the people of the earth, but by the inhabitants of space. Ibrahim said: "The various discoverers of these effects said that they may have been drawn by aliens."

For his part, the historical historian Farid Egil Ahrez said: Some of the drawings represent strange objects that they do not know, and that is why they said that aliens drew them. He added, “They came from space in this region, and that is why we find these drawings.”
According to Ibrahim, this narration indicates that these peoples who inhabited the city had enormous energies and perhaps amazing developments. Therefore, the various developments, inventions, and experiments that they carried out caused them to self-destruct and disappear, which concealed the features of this city.

“Bermuda Triangle Algeria”
Some also call the city the “Bermuda Triangle of Algeria” because parts of it have not yet been reached by explorers, even those who made major discoveries in the city could not enter the entire city because of its vastness and the difficulty of its roads.
And Ibrahim said: “Here comes the story of the magician who was said to have entered one of the caves of this city, accompanied by 30 people, and only this magician returned from him.”
Although these stories have been circulated for decades, there are those who refute these myths and say that they are just rumors.
One of the city’s neighbors said: “Only our ancestors and their great-grandparents lived there, all of this is pure rumours,” adding that they believe it is the lost city, and we see it as caves and caves as if they were houses in the desert.
Bin Shrouda Ahmed, a neighbor of the city of Sifar, said: “We did not hear about the jinn or see them in Sifar. It is the words of the frightened. We did not hear them.”

The mysterious city full of wonders attracts thousands of tourists annually, and they have been coming for decades, defying the difficulty of the road to it. The first area where the journey to Sevar begins is called “Tassa Toft”. Cars park there and only donkeys are used for the trip into town.
